Mistral Said to Be Raising €3 Billion at €20 Billion Valuation

Mistral AI is in early discussions to raise approximately €3 billion ($3.5 billion). If completed, the round would value the three-year-old company at around €20 billion, roughly $23.15 billion.

The Numbers

Mistral's Series C in September 2025 came in at €11.7 billion. The proposed new figure is nearly double that. Per PitchBook, the company has raised approximately $4 billion in total since its 2023 founding.

For reference: OpenAI has raised $186 billion in total funding. Anthropic has raised $161.25 billion. Mistral is in a different weight class, but the valuation trajectory is moving fast.

What Mistral Actually Sells

The company offers open-weight foundational large language models. It also maintains a closed model suite covering programming, voice cloning and generation, and optical character recognition.

Open weights build adoption. Closed models are presumably where the revenue is. The dual approach is a deliberate strategy, not an accident.

The European Position

Mistral has secured partnerships with France's army, the government of Luxembourg, and several major European companies. A data center is being established near Paris.

Government and military contracts tend to produce more predictable revenue than consumer products. The Paris data center suggests infrastructure investment at a meaningful scale.

Caveats

The discussions are described as early. No investors are named. No close date exists. Mistral has not confirmed the figures.

Fundraising discussions at this scale fall through regularly. The round that closes is often different from the round that leaks to the press.
